Clients are the life blood of any coaching or consulting or service based business. Unfortunately, getting clients came be the most challenging thing for new business owners and seasoned business owners a like. If you’re not consistently adding new clients every single month your are not growing your business – and if you’re now growing you’re dying. Below we are going to look at six different ways that you can be generating new clients on a regular basis so your business can thrive.
1. Produce SME Content On Social Media
Producing content as a subject matter expert on social media is the one of the fastest ways to grow your business. Especially right now with TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, and YouTube shorts you have a huge opportunity to create highly engaging short form content around the specific subject matter that you’re an expert in.
Not only is TikTok a huge source of traffic right now all of the other platforms are competing for views as well so right now Instagram Reels and Facebook Reels and YouTube shorts are giving people massive exposure. In fact, many of my YouTube shorts and Facebook reels are out performing TikTok right now.
And with YouTube you get the benefit of having short form and long form content so you can use short form content to drive awareness to your long form content which will help your channel grow much faster.
Are you a little overwhelmed by creating lots of content? Don’t worry, here’s a great strategy that can help you create tons of content for each platform without spending your whole week behind the camera. Here’s what you can do…
- Create a long form piece of video content (usually 5 – 20 minutes long) that you’ll post as a standard YouTube video. Once your video is done and edited you can take 30 second highlights from your main video and turn them into short form videos for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and Facebook Reels. All you really need to do is create one long form video every week and you can cut that up into enough short form videos to fill your social network with content for a whole week.
This content is going to help your ideal audience learn about you, understand how you can help them, and then motivate them to work with you when they’re ready. If you stay consistent with your content output the results will be massive. Your coaching or consulting business will start to grow like crazy due to the new influx of clients lining up to work with you.
2. Engage With Relevant Online Communities
Another great way to gain new clients for your coaching or consulting business is to engage with relevant communities online. The online world is made up of tons of communities and it’s your job to find them and start participating in the conversation.
Facebook groups have just been growing and growing and Facebook itself has noticed that people love being part of good communities. You can easily search Facebook for groups that are relevant to your services and join those groups and start adding value.
The key is to engage with the community in a helpful way – nobody likes spammers. So if you post helpful content or respond to other posts where you share your experiences or offer help, the community will notice and people will begin to reach out to you and inquire about how you can help. Your goal should be to add value in any way you can so that by default people just start reaching out to you.
You can easily do this same thing on Reddit, where there are thousands of groups “subreddits” full of active people who are your ideal customers.
I would encourage you to scour LinkedIn for relevant posts because the comment selection of relevant posts often create little communities where people are learning and sharing from each other, just like they do in Facebook groups.
3. Get Clients With Cold Email Outreach
Email outreach is one of the most overlooked client acquisition methods in today’s time because it feels like the new version of cold calling. However, most people aren’t willing to do it which means there is a massive opportunity for you and your consulting or coaching business to fill the gap.
The hardest part about cold email is identifying who to reach out to and how to get their email and this can take a lot of your time but there are many ways to speed up the process so you can develop highly targeted lists of your ideal prospects and start emailing them right away.
In this article, I’m not going to get too deep into the strategies and methods used for cold emailing, however, if you are interested in a more in depth explanation / tutorial then please comment below and I’ll make a in-depth post specifically about this.
For now, just know that your ideal prospects’ contact information is all over the internet and there are several ways to develop highly targeted lists. Here are a few ideas to get your thoughts pumping.
Finding Databases With Your Ideal Customer
In most states there are free public databases of lawyers complete with contact information such as name, phone, email etc. It’s incredibly easy to access this free database and start reaching out to lawyers right away. Now I want you to think of your ideal customers and try and identify free databases or communities that might have lists available to the public, you’d be surprised what you can find.
Hire Expert Prospecting List Developers
Hire a list maker on Fiverr or Upwork. There are tons of people who are very good at collecting and verifying data and adding it all to a spreadsheet for you. Usually these services don’t need to break the bank either. You can develop hundreds of highly targeted prospects for $10, $20, maybe $100 and paying someone else this list generation for you is going to save you tons of time and effort. You can even hire many of these list building professionals to do the initial emailing and prospecting for you which is a huge time saver but also extremely profitable when you are selling a high ticket coaching or consulting package.
Learn The Art Of List Building & Data Scraping
You can learn the art of “data scraping” yourself. The way that most targeted prospecting lists are built is by understanding exactly how to search for your ideal prospect at scale and then using tools to scrape their information from various websites. For example, through something called a boolean search, you can tell google to only search the website LinkedIn, and to search LinkedIn for “Financial Advisors” you can then use some simple tools to extract your search results and pull contact information when it can. There are some really cool things you can do to build large prospect lists so you can then email them your offer. As I mentioned, this whole other topic and I can make multiple videos about this if you are interested just comment below.
I just wanted to get your wheels spinning so you can better understand how effective cold emailing can work.
4. Get Clients From Business Referrals (Major Key)
Many people don’t realize that they can get a massive amount of referrals from other businesses that already have a huge audience. Let me give you an example…
I have a friend that builds simple websites for local service based companies. These companies are dentists, doctors, landscapers, roofers, plumbers etc. All he does is build them a website, their company offers nothing but weeb building and they keep it that way on purpose because they can scale out this effort. But, because his clients trust him and need help with other areas of their business like advertising, social media posting, graphic design, content creation, they are constantly asking him if he offers any of those services.
I focus a lot on advertising and my friend simply refers me to clients and I give home a referral fee and everyone’s happy. I don’t have to do any work to get clients because he sends them my way. It helps his business because his customers get more services from a trusted partner and it puts more money in both outer pockets.
A good referral source can be the backbone of your business. Referral partnerships like this happen on a massive scale way more than you can imagine.
So here’s what you need to do… First think of your network. Do you know anyone that has a business that works with your ideal customers? If you do, contact them today and try to work out a referral partnership. If you don’t start researching companies that have your ideal customer and reach out to them asking if they are open to referral partnerships, you’d be surprised how many people will be interested in sending you business.
5. Network (Not Your Typical Networking)
One thing I see all the time from successful gurus is that they preach this idea that you should stop drinking, stop going out, and get focused on your business. And while that may ring tru in some instances you must take this advice with a grain of salt.
In fact, if you haven’t noticed, the way that people get popular on social media is by being polarizing, making polarizing statements. And polarizing statements are usually ABSOLUTES.
You’ll NEVER be successful if you keep going out and partying.
Meat is the WORST thing you can eat if you’re trying to be healthy.
I digress…
Look there’s a lot of advice out there and life isn’t so black and white. I know plenty of people who party WAYYYY too hard that are incredibly successful and I know people who don’t party at all and are not successful.
So here’s my point. If you want to meet people and make new relationships, going out, especially by yourself is an amazing way to do that.
In my early twenties I used to go out to bars all the time by myself and I would meet so many incredible people. I’ve met real estate developers, multi millionaire cannabis store owners, trust fund babies, tech entrepreneurs, lawyers, doctors, surgeons. And all these people I would see out regularly to the point where we developed friendships.
Sometimes you gotta have a wild night with someone to really get to know them, and when you do this alot, you can create a massive network of people who know and trust you and refer other people to you.
Back in my twenties I used to talk to this tech entrepreneur about once a week at my local cantina. The more we talked the more we got to know each other and then one day he asked me to come by his office for a job interview. I went to the interview and unfortunately did not get the job but he then referred me to his friends and I got an awesome job with his friends company.
I’m just illustrating the point that going out and having some fun and meeting new people can lead you to building a great network of friends. And friends are the ones who help you out in life, the more friends you have the more business you’ll do, it’s just how it works.
Now, bars aren’t the only place to meet new people, you can meet new people at church, at a pottery class, at networking events, chamber of commerce meetings, seminars, conferences, tennis groups, hiking groups, the list goes on and on.
Here’s the real key.
Go and find events and gather based around the things you love – and go do as much as possible. The more you get out the more you’ll meet people, the more people you meet the more business you’ll generate.
Oh btw, what are the two things people ask you when you meet them?
What’s your name? What do you do?
You don’t even have to try, just get out there and everything will fall into place.
6. Advertise On Facebook™, Google™, TikTok™ And More
Personally, advertising is my favorite way to gain clients because it leverages your time! Everything I mentioned above takes time and effort and consistency and advertising allows you to skip much of that time and effort and get right to the results fast.
The downside to advertising is the risk of capital. If you don’t know what you’re doing or you have not proven your offer, or you haven’t really worked with that many clients yet, and you start advertising you’re going to have to learn a lot in a short amount of time or you’ll most likely lose a lot of money.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t advertise if you are starting out with a new offer or service. Advertising can be a great way to gain your first clients and hit the ground running with your business. You just need to be aware that you are going to spend a good amount of money “figuring things out” and you’ll most likely be at a significant loss at first. However, when you do figure things out you can quickly scale and make up the money you lost.
If you want to stack the odds in your favor and create a customer acquisition system that uses advertising I highly recommend using something called a “low ticket funnel.
A low ticket funnel is when you sell a PDF, book, guide or something high in informational value but low in price.
For example a $17 PDF that teaches people how to gain 100 new instagram followers a day.
Once the potential customer goes to check out this is when the “funnel” aspect of your offer kicks in. At checkout you can offer your customer a free more complimentary products that are similar in price, these are called order bumps.
Usually around 20% or more of the customers will add additional products to their cart and then make the purchase. After the purchase is complete you have the ability to present more offers. These additional offers are called One Click Upsells because the customer’s credit card is already stored on file and all they have to do is click “yes, I want this” and their card will automatically be charged. The best part is you can offer as many up sells or down sells as yuo want.
Through a low ticket funnel equipped with order bumps and one click upsells you can increase the average order value per customer and get a ROI on your advertising efforts.
But here’s the best part. It’s pretty easy to sell a $17 item with advertising because it’s low priced. And with the low ticket funnel you’ll most likely be able to get a decent ROI just off of your font end offers. But now these customers are on your email list and now you can offer them calls to learn about your high-ticket program. So you’re essentially generating leads for your high-ticket program for FREE. In fact, in many cases you are getting PAID to generate leads.
Ok, so this is just a quick overview of what’s possible with advertising a low ticket funnel to gain clients for your high-ticket programs.
So there you have it, those are 6 ways to gain new clients for your coaching or consulting business. You can create content, engage with groups, send cold emails, gain referrals, go out and network, and run advertisements to a low ticket funnel. If you really want to take your business to the next level you’ll use a combination of all these techniques however if this feels overwhelming I would recommend picking one of these techniques and sticking with it until you build enough of a base in your business to start implementing the other strategies.
